God doesn’t forget

“I can’t remember how many years it has been.”

Those were the words I said to a friend as the anniversary of my dad’s passing approached. It was a weird feeling. How can it be that it has been so long without him that I had to do quick math to tally up the years.

Some of my best childhood memories with my dad were at the beach. This week, it was a gift for me to walk alongside the sea and remember him. As every wave broke, I couldn’t help but think about the fact God knows every wave – in the ocean and the waves of grief. He knows and He doesn’t forget. He can’t. He is Omniscient, all-knowing. Forgetfulness isn’t in His character.

It is a real thing with loss when you reach the point where it feels like those around you are starting to forget. The years go by and people’s worlds keep going. But what comfort we have in knowing we have a God who doesn’t ever forget.

He knows the days of my life. He saw eight-year-old me on the day my dad died. He has seen me every day since. He sees me today. He doesn’t forget about it.

“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:16

I don’t know where you find yourself today. I don’t know what you might feel like has been forgotten, by others or even by God. Wherever you find yourself, I pray today you become supernaturally aware that God sees you. He remembers.
